One Mission Accomplished-New Mission Started!

hvalaOne Mission Accomplished

Our first ever Roma Kids Camp was an amazing success! Twenty-five boys and girls from two of Novi Sad’s poorest neighbourhoods had five days and four nights of games, activities, lessons, sleep deprivation, and love. For a group of kids who rarely have this kind of opportunity, it was a blast. Follow-up conversations with their parents tell us that the kids are still talking about how much fun they had at Camp. To all that made it possible (and it was truly a global effort), Thank You!!!

Three UK and two US churches and 48 individuals donated the funds so that the kids could have this experience. The support came from family, a neighbour from the early 1960’s, old schoolmates, a long-haul trucker, and a professional baseball scout, just to name a few. Geographically funds were sent in from Serbia, the UK, Canada, all across the USA, and New Zealand!

Short Side Trip

In the midst of all this we were in a bit of visa limbo. Unbeknown to us, our visa applications had been denied over two months ago! Long story short, a few fines for overstaying as tourists, a few trips to the police station and to see a judge, and going to have lunch in Croatia, and now we’re on 90-day tourist visas. We will pursue new visas after we get back from our trip to the USA.

New Mission Started

As we had (hopefully) told you earlier, we had ulterior motives for putting this camp together. We wanted to use this as an opportunity to get to know these kids and their families. Once we started to cultivate a relationship, we could then determine which kids were in the most need for help with their education.

– The good news is we actually found one family with three kids whose parents want nothing more than to see their kids rise above their current circumstances.  Their dad just started working with creates a Catch-22, by earning money to support his family, they lose the  benefits that help cover their school expenses.

 – The other news is three kids need sponsors. That’s where we (us as Propel and you as someone who cares) come in. Sponsors are needed now to start supporting these kids so funds are ready to cover their 2017-2018 school expenses, and rewriting their futures.

So, here are the two questions:

 1. Would you simply click this link to learn a bit more about Aleksander, Filip, and Jasmina?

2. If you can help, great. If you can’t…would you share this information with folks you know who might be interested?

That is all we ask. Thanks again.
