Somewhere between the craziness of; selecting new students, finding sponsors, buying text books, shopping for supplies, and hosting several high-energy teams each year, we do find time to focus in on a bit of a younger audience. Preschoolers.
Most of you reading this take the idea of attending preschool as a no-brainer. Everyone does it. Not so in the Roma (gypsy) world. Many families are comprised of multiple generations whom have never attended school. Education is foreign to them. Education is not needed for survival. Better to put your kids on the street as beggars.
Since part of of our vision is “to create cycles of generational success.” We offer Launchpad workshops at no cost to families willing to become involved with their children’s future.
Launchpad has been created to empower parents by showing them how to teach their preschool age children the necessary educational and language skills for successful entry into school. Proper preparation paves the way for these kids to go from slow, stupid, and special needs, to being on the same level as their peers.
What might look like fun and games is actually a series of scientifically developed (and proven) interactions. Each workshop offers practical methods for moms and dads to incorporate into their time with their children.
The results? Kids prepared to enter school. Kids not being left behind. Kids not being labelled as “slow” and then put in special classes where they receive about 1/3 the education they deserve.
So far in 2018 we have been able to provide these workshops in two of the local Roma communities, Mali Beograd and Šangaj. A special series of workshops was provided to some of the client’s of our near and dear friends at the Choose Life Ctr.
Each workshop is different, so we adapt to the audience, without straying from the fundamentals. Each child is different , so we do our best to meet individual needs along the way. We also keep our eyes and ears open to help us recognize other educational needs in the communities. Which leads us to something new and exciting.
It is on the drawing board and currently goes by the code name: Delta.
