Greetings friends and supporters,
Some of you may have heard bits and pieces about Mary’s current health situation. We want to take this opportunity to get everyone up to speed.
Short version.
The Bad News….A few months ago Mary noticed a lump on the left side of her neck. After a battery of tests, blood work, CT scans, and finally a biopsy, the growth was identified as a type of soft-tissue sarcoma. It is a form of cancer. But, don’t panic…
The Good News…after all those tests it was also determined she is in good health (one doctor commented, “You have beautiful blood.”) and the cancer has not spread. More importantly, God loves her.
Tomorrow morning, 14 Jan, she will be checking in at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia in Belgrade for the first of 3 planned sessions of chemotherapy. Each visit will see her in the hospital for four nights. There will be about 3 weeks between each session. The goal is to shrink the tumor down to a size where it can be surgically removed.
The medical staff with whom we have been working have been supportive, open to communication, and one doctor even took some of his vacation time to make the arrangements to get the chemo scheduled as soon as possible.
We are taking this all a step at a time and believe Mary will come out of this better than ever.
Your prayers are coveted over these next few months as this saga unfolds.
Thank you.
Paul and Mary
