Any of us with older same-gender siblings know all about hand-me-downs. As the fifth child and third son in a family with twelve children, you can only imagine how every pair of pants, every shirt, and all the shoes were used until there was little life left.
But, what if your whole life is a someone else’s hand-me-down? If you’re next in line as the heir to a fortune… great. What if
your great-grandparents were uneducated and poor?
What could they give to to the next generation?
What could your grandparents give to your parents?
Just as the trousers, shirts, and shoes wear out with use and over time, the little each preceding generation has to offer becomes less and less and less as the years flow past. What legacy would you receive from someone who has less than nothing to give?
Sure, once a pair of socks wears out you throw them away. But we’re not talking about socks, we’re talking about lives!
Recently in one such life, something shifted, something changed, it may seem small, but we pray it is the first pebble whose movement starts the avalanche. The first of our sponsored students graduated from his apprenticeship program! Aleksa is a great young man from a broken home with a smile shines through the darkness of his home life. He beamed with pride as he told us the news, and he wanted to make certain he thanked us and all who made it possible.
To us (and Aleksa) this is a big deal. This means more than getting good grades, or having a diploma. Aleksa landed a job and for the first time in his life has the opportunity to rise above his hand-me-down life. This is how we rewrite futures.
What next? There are six grade-school kids currently in need of sponsors for the 2016-2017 school year. We are meeting with the students, the parents, and the teachers to determine how much help is needed, and how to best prepare them for the next school year.
Where do you fit in? We have created a student sponsorship program, a bridge from poverty to opportunities. It requires partners, donors, sponsors, and those willing to see these dreams become a reality.
Questions? Ideas? Want to help rewrite futures with us? This button is the next step…
Thank you. be blessed.
