The Why

Ever witness something that touched you so deeply it invades your sleep?

Walking the streets of a Roma (gypsy) ghetto is such an experience. Your mind reels as you attempt to fit this world into your context. The ramshackle homes, the muddy streets, the kids in third-hand clothes, all trapped in the overwhelming grip of poverty. You start to ask…

  • Why does anyone live in such a place?
  • How can they survive in these conditions?
  • Why are they here?
  • Why doesn’t somebody do something?

I still remember my first exposure to the world of the Serbian Roma people. Those same questions ran through my brain as I stood in the middle of a ghetto locally referred to as “The Big Pit”. This video tells the story far better than any words I can offer. I will never unsee this…ever.

The vision of that place started to haunt me, as did that last question… Why doesn’t somebody do something?

We became the somebody! Propel became the something! Here is How we fulfill the vision>>>
